AUTHORITY

The East Feliciana Parish School Board is responsible for the creation, operation, and appraisal of public education in East Feliciana Parish.  The Board has the authority to determine and establish written policies and to evaluate their effectiveness.  It shall also act as an evaluative body sitting in judgement on recommendations that may come to it which concern the progress and improvement of the schools.  The function of the School Board shall not be to operate the schools, but to see that they are operated for the best interests of the children and taxpayers.  The School Board may also make recommendations and regulations for its own government not inconsistent with state or federal law or with the regulations of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), as it may deem proper.

The School Board and its members have authority only when functioning as a body or group in a legally called regular or special meeting.  The powers of the School Board are delegated only to the Board as a body.  No authority is granted to members acting as individuals.  It is the policy of the East Feliciana Parish School Board that no member of the School Board shall take any action on behalf of the Board or express any opinion as an expression of the opinion of the Board, unless such action or opinion has been previously approved at a regular or special meeting of the Board.
