SPECIAL USE OF SCHOOL BUSES
It shall be the policy of the East Feliciana Parish School Board to permit the use of school buses for student trips or excursions to enhance instructional activities. The use of buses for such trips shall be strictly governed by regulations adopted by the School Board and/or established by the Superintendent or administrative staff. All arrangements for any trip or excursion shall be made by either the transportation supervisor or the Superintendent.
Any school or organization may use buses for athletic or activity trips. The School Board will be reimbursed by the school or organization the expense equal to the cost of operation of the buses for the particular event, but which shall be no less than the following:
$ 1.25 per mile for School Board-owned/leased school buses;
Local In-District Field Trips: $25.00 CDL Bus Operator fee for two (2) hours, additional $12.50 per hour after initial two (2) hours; per approved field trip using School Board-owned/leased school buses;
Out of District Field Trips: $50.00 CDL Bus Operator fee for four (4) hours, additional $15.00 per hour after initial four (4) hours; per approved field trip using School Board-owned/leased school buses; and
Contract CDL Bus Operators shall be allowed to negotiate any other field trip transportation fees with each school, per approved field trip using their individual Contract school buses.
Varsity athletic events attended by teams, cheerleaders and bands, BETA, 4-H, literary rallies and any other competitive festivals/camps attended (for which money is not received by the requesting school group for attending the event) shall be exempted from paying the mileage fee. When a member of the requesting school group holds a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and is otherwise qualified to drive the bus, the driver's fee shall be exempted.
The following guidelines shall apply to the special use of any school bus:
For activities of an educational nature within the parish, the use of the buses shall be requested by the principal of the school involved and it shall be limited in time so as not to interfere with the regular route to which that bus is assigned.
For educational activities outside the parish, the use of the buses shall be limited to transporting those students who are engaged in representing their school in the primary activity for which the trip is required. The request shall also come from the principal involved.
Approval for the use of the buses shall be requested at least two (2) weeks prior to the trip for the office staff to evaluate the request and to make the arrangements necessary. All buses on all occasions shall be driven by a person with a commercial driver's license. The principal of the school involved shall be held responsible for seeing that the above condition is met.
INSURANCE
The School Board shall assure that appropriate insurance coverage is maintained for any field trips or excursions for which School Board-owned buses are used. The School Board shall also assure that when contract buses are used for day field trips or excursions, the bus owner provides proof of appropriate insurance coverage for the trip prior to the trip being taken.
