SCHOOL BUS MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The East Feliciana Parish School Board shall require a program of preventive maintenance of all Board-owned vehicles and all school buses used for the transportation of students.  The Superintendent or his/her designee shall establish and maintain a schedule that provides for regular maintenance of vehicles to assure performance, safety of operation, and longevity of usage.  The maintenance program shall be in accordance with guidelines outlined in Louisiana School Transportation Specifications and Procedures, Bulletin 119.

CONTRACT BUSES

Maintenance of contract buses shall utilize the same schedule as for Board-owned buses.  Written notification of repair or maintenance of each contract bus shall be sent to the Superintendent or his/her designee.  Records of maintenance on contract buses shall be reviewed periodically to determine if proper maintenance and repair is being conducted.

BREAKDOWNS

When the bus of a contracted bus operator breaks down or becomes unoperational for any reason, the operator shall immediately inform his/her assigned school administrator and/or the Transportation Supervisor when assistance is needed to pick up students.  If a bus is needed, the operator may be given permission by the Transportation Supervisor to use a School Board owned bus, if one is available.  Operational expenses shall be deducted and paid to the School Board.  If the School Board's bus is not available, the operator will be required to make arrangements with the school administrator and/or the Transportation Supervisor for other CDL drivers to assist in transporting students.

An operator unable to drive a bus shall submit a Request for Leave form to his/her school administrator's office.  Operational expenses shall be deducted and paid to the substitute operator(s) that transported students.
