HEARING IMPAIRED STUDENTS

It shall be the policy of the East Feliciana Parish School Board to appoint the teacher of the hearing impaired student to be responsible for assuring that the student's hearing aid is working properly.  The child's teacher may be the special education teacher, itinerant teacher of hearing impaired students or the speech, hearing, language specialist.  In cases where the child has no special education teacher, the regular teacher may consult with the school nurse, parent, or other person(s) knowledgeable about hearing aids to assure that the student's hearing aid is working properly.

In order to insure that hearing aids worn by deaf and hard of hearing children are functioning properly, the teacher of the hearing impaired shall check the hearing aid daily.  This check shall be made at the beginning of the school day.  If the hearing aid is not functioning properly, the teacher shall report this malfunctioning to the parent(s) of the hearing impaired student.
